Where To Elope In The Dolomites: 10 Epic Locations for Your Mountain Elopement

So you’ve decided you want to elope in the Dolomites.

Amazing.

Now comes the part where you open Pinterest, Instagram, Google, and TikTok and somehow end up with 47 different mountain locations saved.

And now you have absolutely no idea where any of them actually are or how to create a timeline for an elopement day.

Welcome to planning a Dolomites elopement.

The Dolomites are HUGE, and there are so many incredible places to explore that choosing where to actually get married can feel overwhelming. Some locations are easy to access, some require hiking, some are better at sunrise, some are better at sunset, and some are just straight-up packed with people during the day.

So instead of picking a location because you saw one pretty photo of it online, let’s break down some of the best places to elope in the Dolomites and what each one is actually like.

1. Lago di Braies

If you’ve started researching where to elope in the Dolomites, there’s a very good chance you’ve already seen Lago di Braies.

It’s one of the most recognizable lakes in the Dolomites, and honestly, the photos don’t even do it justice.

The turquoise water, surrounding peaks, wooden boathouse, and alpine setting make this an incredibly scenic location for a Dolomites elopement.

But there’s a catch.

It’s popular.

Very popular.

So if you’re dreaming about an intimate elopement at Lago di Braies, timing and planning are a BIG deal.

This is one of those locations where I would not recommend simply showing up in the middle of the day and hoping for the best.

2. Cadini di Misurina

Okay, if you want your elopement to feel a little more adventurous, let’s talk about Cadini di Misurina.

This area is known for its dramatic, jagged peaks that make the Dolomites look completely unreal.

And while the famous viewpoint is definitely worth seeing, this is a location I’d recommend for couples who actually want to get out into the mountains.

You’re going to have some hiking involved, and the terrain can feel much more adventurous than some of the easier-access locations.

But if you’re the couple who would rather spend your wedding day hiking through the mountains than sitting in a ballroom…

Yeah.

This might be your place.

3. Seceda

Seceda is another one of those locations that you’ll see EVERYWHERE when you start researching a Dolomites elopement.

And there’s a reason.

The ridgeline is insane.

The huge peaks, green alpine meadows, and dramatic cliffs make Seceda one of the most recognizable landscapes in the Dolomites.

One of the biggest perks is that you don’t necessarily have to spend your entire wedding day hiking to get there.

Depending on your plans and the season, you can use the cable car system to get into the area and then explore from there.

That makes Seceda a really interesting option if you want the feeling of a big mountain adventure without making your entire day a hardcore hiking expedition.

4. Passo Gardena

Want huge mountain views without spending your entire day hiking?

Passo Gardena should absolutely be on your list.

This mountain pass winds through some of the most incredible scenery in the Dolomites, with towering peaks and alpine landscapes in basically every direction.

It’s also a great option if you want your elopement to feel like a road trip through the mountains.

You can build an entire day around driving through the Dolomites, stopping at overlooks, exploring different areas, hiking when you want to, and finding little pockets of scenery along the way.

And honestly, that sounds like a pretty damn good wedding day to me.

5. Alpe di Siusi

If your dream Dolomites elopement is less jagged mountain peaks and more open alpine meadows, Alpe di Siusi is worth looking into.

Think wide-open grassy landscapes, rolling hills, dramatic mountains in the background, and that classic European alpine feeling.

It’s a completely different look from places like Cadini di Misurina.

And that’s something I really want couples to remember when choosing where to elope in the Dolomites.

The Dolomites don’t have one “look.”

You can have dramatic peaks.

Alpine lakes.

Open meadows.

Mountain passes.

Rifugios.

Forests.

Your location should match the experience and scenery you’re actually drawn to.

Pro tip: keep in mind that the main road that this is on is closed to the public 9-5pm. Logistically that can be a bit of an issues, but there are other ways to explore this area. Dont worry, my couples get the insider scoop on this!

6. Tre Cime di Lavaredo

If dramatic mountain scenery is at the top of your list, Tre Cime di Lavaredo deserves a spot on your radar.

The three massive peaks are one of the most recognizable landscapes in the Dolomites.

This area is especially great for couples who want to combine their elopement with hiking and exploring.

The catch?

You’re not just casually popping over for five minutes, taking a photo, and leaving.

This is a location where your timeline, hiking ability, weather, and access all need to be considered.

Which brings me to something important…

The Most Popular Dolomites Location Isn’t Necessarily the Best One for You

I know.

You saw the photo.

You want THAT photo.

But here’s the thing.

A location can be absolutely incredible and still not be the right location for your wedding day.

Maybe the hike is longer than you expected.

Maybe it’s packed with tourists during the time you wanted to be there.

Maybe your dream timeline doesn’t work with the cable car schedule.

Maybe you don’t actually want to hike in your wedding clothes.

Or maybe you want to visit five different locations instead of spending six hours at one viewpoint.

That’s why I don’t believe in picking a location first and figuring out the rest later.

Start with the experience you want.

Then find the location that fits it.

Sunrise vs. Sunset in the Dolomites

This is another huge factor when deciding where to elope in the Dolomites.

Some locations can be dramatically different depending on the time of day.

Sunrise can mean fewer people, softer light, and a much quieter experience.

It can also mean a VERY early alarm.

Like… why are we awake right now? early.

Sunset gives you that beautiful evening light and a more relaxed start to the day, but popular viewpoints can be busier.

There’s no universal answer.

The best time depends on your location, the season, the weather, and what you actually want your wedding day to feel like.

Do You Need to Hike to These Dolomites Elopement Locations?

Not necessarily.

And this is one of the biggest misconceptions I see about mountain elopements.

You do not have to be an ultra-marathon-level hiker to have an incredible Dolomites elopement.

Some locations have cable car access.

Some have roads nearby.

Some require a short walk.

Others are much more of an adventure.

The trick is matching the location to your comfort level.

If you want to hike for several hours in your wedding clothes?

Awesome.

If you’d rather walk 20 minutes and immediately be surrounded by mountains?

Also awesome.

There’s no prize for making your elopement unnecessarily difficult.

How to Choose the Right Dolomites Elopement Location

Instead of asking yourself, “What’s the prettiest place to elope in the Dolomites?”

I’d ask:

How do I want my wedding day to feel?

Do you want adventure?

Privacy?

A lake?

Huge mountain peaks?

An easy-access viewpoint?

A long hiking day?

A road trip?

A cozy mountain town?

A combination of several locations?

Once you know that, choosing a location becomes SO much easier.

Because your wedding isn’t just a photoshoot.

You’re going to remember how the day felt.

And that’s way more important than checking off the most famous viewpoint in the Dolomites.
